The Western Regional Fisheries Board is honoured to welcome the Irish Ladies Flyfishing Association and their competitors from England, Scotland and Wales to the West of Ireland for the 2005 Home Internationals for Ladies Flyfishing.
This prestigious competition will be held on Lough Mask on Thursday the 2nd of June from Cushlough Bay, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. Competition is expected to be extremely stiff, with the top lady anglers from all four countries competing for prizes.
On Monday the 9th of May, the open draw for boat partners was held at the WRFB Office at Cushlough, observed by WRFB Chairman Lal Faherty, Ballinrobe & District Anglers PRO Denis Kelleher, well-known angling guide and flytying expert Rod Tye, and WRFB staff member Joe Cusack.
There will be 28 boats in the competition, with each team providing 14 anglers. Competitors will fish with a competitor from one of the other 3 countries, decided by the open draw.
On Tuesday the 31st and Wednesday the 1st, the competitors will have 2 days of practice in which to get to know the lake and try different tactics, before the real competition begins in earnest. A barbecue will be held on the Tuesday evening, and it is expected that the rivalry will be very friendly throughout the week.
The Western Regional Fisheries Board is delighted to welcome the Ladies International Teams back to the West, and wishes all the competitors the very best of luck.
